Title: The Deal
Author: Elle Kennedy
“Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don’t know how you ever lived without them.”
Hannah gets a crush on the new college football star and although this isn’t her usual type, she finds herself drawn to him. The only problem is that he has no idea that she exists. Out of desperation, Hannah makes a deal with the college hockey star, Garrett, to tutor him in exchange for pretending he is dating Hannah. Her hope is that this will make the football star notice her, but neither she nor Garrett could have anticipated the feelings that would grow between them. Their deal may have gotten a little more complicated.
“Baby, I could watch you watching paint dry, and I still wouldn’t be bored.” Garrett Graham, my own personal sweet-talker.”
I had really high hopes for this book because it is highly rated and seemed like a fun romance story to explore. However, I was thoroughly disappointed. The book started off really strong. I enjoyed the humor between Hannah and Garrett when they first connected and I thought their growing romance was cute. As soon as they made it official though, the book should have ended. The rest of the story was just unnecessary drama that was really boring to read.
“Living well and being happy is how we get over the shit in our past.”
It was also difficult for me to read the “help me get over my rape by giving me an orgasm” stuff. I don’t like that Elle Kennedy portrayed it as any woman who struggles to get an orgasm has something wrong with them. Ideas like this are exactly why women fake orgasms because there is so much pressure to have one. I also didn’t like how she made it seem like Hannah needed a man to help her get over being raped. Relying on someone else to help you get over a scar in your past is never healthy.
This book is the first book of a series, but I didn’t read any others after The Deal. Some people really love this book, so if you think it sounds interesting then give it a try. But please ladies, remember that you are perfect the way you are!
